A World of Hope's Vietnam Program:

Adoptions from Vietnam are temporarily suspended.

A World of Hope is very excited to offer an adoption program in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Adopting through our Vietnam program is a wonderful choice for families who desire to add any age child to their family. The children available through our program are cared for at orphanages located in several areas of Southern Vietnam. A portion of your fees will go toward humanitarian projects in Vietnam. Additionally, a donation will be made directly to your child's orphanage. We hope that our families are encouraged by knowing that the fees they pay will directly benefit other children who wait for adoptive families!

A World of is very proud to announce our branch office in Ho Chi Minh City. Very dedicated Family Coordinators staff our HCMC office. They are extremely passionate about finding homes for Vietnam's waiting children and we're grateful to be working with them to unite children with their forever families. Our Family Coordinators do not work with other agencies -- they work in an exclusive partnership with A World of Hope. We feel that the families who choose to adopt through our Vietnam program are in exceptional hands.

The Children:

v     Infants to children 15 years of age can be placed with qualified families.

v     Boys, girls, sibling groups, and occasionally twins are available.

v     Parents may specify the gender of the child they wish to adopt.

v     Most children are Vietnamese or a combination of Vietnamese, Chinese, and/or Khmer decent.

v     Children become available for adoption for the following reasons: poverty; death of parent; unwed birthmother, or sickness of child.

Family Eligibility:

v     Vietnam requires that adoptive parents be at least 20 years older than the child they wish to adopt. There is no upper age limit to adopt, although those over 55 may need special approval.

v     Single men and women are accepted.

v     Large families are accepted.

Time Frame:

Generally, the adoption process takes from 1 to 4 months to complete once a family has received the referral of their child. As with any international adoption, times are only approximate and can vary. We will keep you informed during the entire adoption process.

Travel:

Parents must be prepared to make two trips to Vietnam.* The first trip is approximately four business days in Vietnam. During the first trip to Vietnam you will submit your dossier in person to Vietnamese officials. More importantly, you will also be able to spend time with your child. During the first trip you will have time to sightsee and get to know the country and culture into which your child was born.

After officials in Vietnam have approved your adoption you will travel a second time. Your stay will be 7-10 business days in length. During your second trip you will attend your child's Giving and Receiving Ceremony, obtain your child's passport, take your child to the medical appointment needed to obtain a U.S. Visa, attend the INS interview and the Visa Interview that will secure your child's U.S Immigrant Visa and pick up the visa packet the day after the interview. Our Family Coordinators will be with you every step of the way! Only one parent is required to travel on both trips, although we recommend that both parents travel if at all possible.

*With the new law effective January 2, 2003 , only one trip will be required, but the length of that trip is yet to be determined. .

Order of Events: (This could change slightly when adoptions commence in Vietnam)

A World of Hope will help you through every step of the international adoption process for Vietnam, which includes the following steps:

Our Commitment to Education:

We at A World of Hope pride ourselves on our commitment to education. We feel it our duty to provide our families with materials that will not only teach them about their future child's heritage, but also give them tools to become informed adoptive parents. If you choose to work with us you will receive three educational packets throughout your adoption journey fit neatly into a personalized Adoption Binder.

Our Heritage Packet contains invaluable information about your child's country of birth--including language, history, customs, traditional dress, maps, and much more. Our International Travel Packet contains everything you will need in order to feel at ease when traveling to your destination country--including visa forms, rules of etiquette specific to your child's country, and lots of great advice to make your trip an exciting and fun experience. When you return to the United States with your child you will be welcomed home with our Post-Adoption Packet. This packet contains information on readoption, getting your child's passport or Certificate of Citizenship, post-adoption medical exams, ways to integrate your child's culture into your family, and many other resources to help you stay informed and connected with the adoption community. All three of our educational packets fit neatly into a personalized binder that we provide to each of our families.
